a couple of great men....

last week i attended the funeral of one of the finest men i have ever met... add to this he was the father of my best mate. I was standing in the church surrounded by so many people all there for the same reason as me... we were there to say good bye what astounded me though and gave me faith in humanity was hearing the people talk about him with love in their voices. they werent there to fare well a guy they met they were there for a genuine mate.. every last person was there for that. well i hope so anyway.
I met Vin when i was maybe 9 yrs old. i was at his house all the time and never really realised the person he was. it was years later that i really caught on and got to see the man he was.
He will be remembered as highly thought of member of the Australian army. He will be remembered as the commissioner of the snowy. He will be remembered as the most influential and highly thought of man in cooma for his strength and love for the town as the Mayor. and he will be remembered as a mate to anyone who knew him.
And to follow in his foot steps is a great mate with all the potential in the world to be just as amazing a person.
being at that funeral reminded me of my own grand father. a man i looked up to my whole life and who was a very similar man to Vin. a man who took time for any person. who helped any person in need who cared for all those around them and a man i wish i could follow in the foot steps of. if i could be half the man my grandfather was then i will be happy with the life that i have had....

i dont believe in heaven but i do believe these men deserve access to such a place if it exists if it doesnt then i am glad they made the most of their lives and im proud to have known them both
